About Green Without
Green Without started because the gardening content I could find assumed things I didn't have: a yard, a car to fill with mulch, an afternoon free in the middle of a Tuesday.
What I had was a balcony, some decent light, and the specific frustration of watching a basil plant die for the fourth time without understanding why.
Who This Is For
If you grow things — or want to — in an apartment, a rental, a small-space situation that most gardening content ignores, this is for you.
This is for people who moved into their first real apartment and decided they wanted plants in it. People who found a balcony and wanted to use it. People who've been growing for a while but want the aesthetic to match the intention.
Gen Z and younger millennials. Renters. People who care about how the space looks, not just whether the plant survives.
This is not a beginner's corner where things are dumbed down. The assumption here is that you're smart and new to this simultaneously — which is a very different thing.
What We Cover
Five content pillars, each one mapped to something specific:
Indoor plants and plant care — the species that belong in apartments, and how to actually keep them alive in imperfect conditions.
Balcony and small-space outdoor growing — container-first gardening for renters. Nothing permanent, everything possible.
Growing food at home — herbs on windowsills. Tomatoes in pots. The edible garden that fits inside a rental.
Plant styling and aesthetic — how to make a collection of plants look considered. Containers, placement, grouping, negative space.
Propagation and plant expansion — growing your collection for free, using what you already have.
The Aesthetic
The visual identity of Green Without is deliberate: dark, editorial, botanical. Atmospheric photography. Elevated over approachable — not because approachable is wrong, but because beautiful and accessible aren't opposites, and most gardening content treats them like they are.
The choices are deliberate because the audience here cares about aesthetics as much as outcomes. Green Without is built on that premise.
